No more crypto ad ban on Google Adwords

On September 25, Google announced its plan to update ad policy and partly reallow cryptocurrency-related advertising starting October 2018. The good news is, all crypto businesses buying ads on Google Adwords can benefit from the update. However, the things aren’t that neat and tidy. The point is, crypto ads will be available only for US and Japanese audiences. As for other interested parties, they are welcome to preapprove ads for their countries individually. In other words, if you’re not a resident of the USA or Japan, feel free to apply for certification.

It’s not bad, it’s just “unfair.”

In June 2018, Google banned cryptocurrency-related ads completely. The company’s director of sustainable ads, Scott Spencer, tried to make things clear: “We don’t have a crystal ball to know where the future is going to go with cryptocurrencies, but we’ve seen enough consumer harm or potential for consumer harm that it’s an area that we want to approach with extreme caution.”
